Serving

Where are you passionate about serving?  Where does your greatest gladness meet the world’s greatest need?  Opportunities to serve abound in the greater community and within the congregation.

Congregational Serving Opportunities

Serving Page PhotStewardship and Volunteer Opportunities
Stewardship is everything we do after we say, “I believe.”  Our Stewardship Team manages our Time and Talent Fairs, twice yearly opportunities to sign up for serving in the congregation.  Over 90% of our members participate in some kind of activity beyond worship.  From baking cookies to reading in worship, there is a place for you within the life of this congregation.

Community Service Opportunities

Aurora Transitional Shelter
Christ Lutheran Church is addressing the tragedy of homelessness one family at a time.  Since 1990, CLC has partnered with The Annie Ross House in Milwaukie to help homeless families transition back into regular housing.  A two bedroom apartment, owned by CLC, provides up to six months of respite to a family in need.  This rent-free housing gives families an opportunity to save up rent and deposit money so that they can get back on their feet financially.  A case worker from Clackamas County Human Services and volunteers provide support for the family during their stay.

Backpack Buddies
Backpack Buddies is a feeding program for at risk kids at North Marion Primary School based on a national model.  Young people who receive free or reduced lunches are provided with two complete heat and eat meals each weekend to help them when free lunches are not available.  Currently, forty kids receive two meals each weekend throughout the school year.  CLC partners with four other faith communities and The Aurora American Legion Auxiliary to provide this service.  Opportunities to purchase, assemble, and deliver meals are available.

Giving Tree
Each Christmas, members from CLC anonymously adopt families in need and provide a complete Christmas celebration, including food, gifts, clothing, and decorations.   Four or five families are adopted each year.

North Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity (NWVHFH)
Through the Clackamas Alliance, a cooperative of churches, organizations and individuals, CLC supports the work of the North Willamette Valley Habitat for Humanity (NWVHFH).  This Habitat Affiliate builds homes for deserving families from Silverton to Canby, allowing families to buy them with no interest loans in exchange for their sweat equity investment.   In 2007, NWVHFH presented new keys to five households!

Lutheran women have a long tradition of creating quilts for local and global mission.  CLC has an active group of quilters sewing to the glory of God.  The product of their labor has ended up in homeless shelters, Lutheran World Relief kits, nursing homes, hospitals, hospices, and in the laps of members and friends of the congregation.

Souper Bowl/Food Bank
Hunger is a major concern for our community and every year, our congregation provides over one ton of non perishable food items to local food banks in Canby and Woodburn.  Special collections of cash and food are also made as part of the national Souper Bowl Sunday initiative, which coincides with the big football game.
